The people behind the work

Most firms do not need more AI. They need the right work redesigned.

Time & Margin is led by two people. Seán came up through accounting and finance and now builds AI infrastructure. Deirdre spent her career on a technical recruitment desk. Most of the workflows named on this site are workflows one of them has run by hand, on a deadline, with their own name on the output.

You deal with the two of them directly on every engagement, and the implementation behind each build is carried by our engineering lead.

Seán Casey

Founder. Accounting, finance and professional services.

Seán is a chartered certified accountant, ACCA-qualified.

He is a co-founder of Reiver, a production AI control plane built in Rust and run in the EU. It sits in the request path between an application and its model providers, and it handles model traffic routing and failover, prompt versioning and staged rollout, tracing across the whole application, and an agent that investigates when something looks wrong. That is the engineering end of the problem this firm works on at the desk level: knowing what an AI system is actually doing, and being able to show it.

Before Reiver, five years in blockchain finance and treasury, most of it as head of finance and treasury at a blockchain software company. He held fiat and digital-asset treasury, liquidity planning and forecasting, capital deployment, treasury governance, custody and multisig approval processes, and risk controls. He led a team across treasury, finance, operations and HR, and supported audits, compliance and board reporting.

Before that, six years in aviation leasing finance in Shannon, as in-charge accountant on asset-backed securitisation vehicles. Cash and rental receivable reconciliations, signing off the monthly invoice run, quarterly management accounts under IFRS, and presenting to boards at their quarterly meetings.

He also founded Wedding Avocado, Ireland's first online wedding services marketplace, with family.

Deirdre Casey

Founder. Recruitment.

Deirdre is founding account executive at Reiver.

Before that, eight years on an IT and technical recruitment desk, across four agencies in Dublin, Shannon and Limerick, hiring into Clare, Limerick, Cork and Galway. Her specialisms were software testing and QA, and IT and telecoms. She worked both sides of the arrangement: agency-side consulting, and in-house talent acquisition.

Which is why she is a hard sell on automation. A recruiter's week splits into judgment and typing, and on a calendar the two look identical. Knowing where that line falls is the difference between a desk that runs faster and a desk that has been quietly hollowed out. At Time & Margin the judgment stays with the recruiter. Everything on the other side of the line is fair game.

She is also a co-director of Wedding Avocado.

The full record, desk by desk, is on Deirdre's LinkedIn profile.

How an engagement runs

Five steps, in this order.

1. Understand. The workflow, the economics, the constraints and the points where judgment matters. This is a conversation about one high-value workflow, rather than a discovery questionnaire.

2. Prioritise. The build starts on the best combination of value, feasibility and controlled risk. A clear business case is the condition for starting. That is a decision rule, and it is applied out loud.

3. Implement. The build fits the systems and the responsibilities already in place, so the firm keeps working the way it works.

4. Embed. The people are trained, ownership is documented, and exception handling is defined.

5. Measure. The result is compared against the baseline agreed before anything was built.

Two things are fixed. The baseline is agreed in writing before the build starts, so the result is measured against a number rather than an impression. And human judgment is retained by name: the task gets automated, and a named person keeps the accountability.
